Tennessee Zoning Office.  The purpose of the Zoning Office is:

"For the purpose of promoting the public health, safety, morals, convenience, order, prosperity, or general welfare of Washington County, Tennessee, and to lessen congestion in the streets, to secure safety from fire, flood, panic and other dangers, to provide adequate light and air, to prevent the overcrowding of land, to avoid undue concentration of population, to facilitate the adequate provisions of transportation, water, sewerage, schools, parks, and other public requirements; to promote desirable living conditions and the sustained stability of neighborhoods, protecting property against blight and depreciation, securing economy in governmental expenditure, concerning the value of building and encouraging the most appropriate use of lands, buildings, and other structures throughout the county, all in accordance with a comprehensive plan."
